Analyzing the First Trade in Fan Controlled Football History
The first trade in league history has fans from all 8 teams buzzing. Good? Bad? Meh? We discuss it all!
IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED! Fan Controlled Football had it’s first ever trade this past Tuesday, which would later be approved via fan vote on Wednesday. After It had been rumored that Zappers Wide Receiver and NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens was on the “trade block” following the Zappers Week 4 28-0 loss to the Beasts. It appears those rumors were true, as Owens is now on the move following a stunning three-team deal made by FCF team owners.
The Zappers, Knights of Degen, and Beasts agreed on terms quickly on Tuesday morning and followed that up with a Fan Vote to determine whether or not the trade would be approved. With a passing vote of 51%, the trade became official on Wednesday morning. Here are the full details of the trade:
Knights of Degen receive - WR Terrell Owens, WR Jacoby Herring,
Beasts receive - QB Dentarrius Yon, Picks 1 & 16 in Week 5 Draft
Zappers receive - QB Jason Stewart, WR Isaiah King, Picks 5 & 12 in Week 5 Draft

WINNERS
The winners are obvious. Let’s start with Wide Receiver Terrell Owens. Owens leaves the 0-4 Zappers in his rearview to join a Knight of Degen squad that is clicking on all cylinders. Owens has put up solid numbers despite having played with what, 6 different quarterbacks in 4 weeks? Now he gets to catch passes from KOD’s star Quarterback Ed Crouch. Crouch is an FCF veteran who leads the league in Rushing Touchdowns with 7, and is second among all Quarterbacks in passing yards.
The Knights have the number one point differential in the league at +42. With a steady passing attack as led by the above mentioned Crouch, Owens can now be viewed as KOD’s number one receiver. As far as Owens and KOD are concerned, it’s a great fit. With the “winners” being TO and KOD, let’s get to the losers in this trade.
LOSERS
While it’s obvious the Zappers lose an NFL Hall of Famer, the real loser in this trade is the Beasts. Yes, picks 1 & 16 in the Week 5 Draft are great, but the QB situation is the big issue. Quarterback Dentarrius Yon was selected by the Beasts in Round 5 of the Week 3 draft. This draft was supposed to set each roster and lock in the skill positions (QB, SB, WR) across the league. Yet Yon was allocated to the Knights of Degen’s roster in Week 4, and is now subsequently traded BACK to the Beasts in this deal. Yon is a good talent and should provide a nice insurance policy for Quarterback Alphonso Howard, but the premise of a trade for a player that had already been drafted by the team he’s being traded to is just odd.
OVERVIEW / FINAL THOUGHTS
As a fan, the trade process needs some overhauling. 70% of the fans needing to reject a trade seems like a decent number. I think the bigger issue is having zero input from the fans as far as who stays and who goes. Perhaps a series of proposed trades could be incorporated into the vote, instead of just one trade scenario to work with? The league is looking at options to make trades better in the future. How they plan to do that remains a question.
Look, this league is revolutionizing the way football is played. However, at it’s core, it’s still football. Trades happen in other professional football leagues and fans have to deal with the results. While it might not have been appealing to all, some fans liked the trade (psst, that’s you KOD fans) and it does shake up the teams as we head down the back stretch of the v2.0 regular season.
Without a doubt, the first trade in FCF history was historic. It’ll also go down as a trade with a ton of controversy surrounding it. With Week 5 on the horizon, fans will have to wait and see how this trade will impact each of the teams involved. While other trades might be made before the end of the season, none will have the impact league-wide such as this one!
