Pindell Primed to be QB1 for the Empire
David Pindell eyes starting role with NAL’s Albany franchise
National Arena League’s 2021 season wrapped up back in August of this year. The champions of the league, the Albany Empire, took down the Columbus Lions 79-62 to be crowned kings of the league. With the Empire looking to repeat as champions, a familiar face has emerged to carry out that goal. Former University of Connecticut Quarterback David Pindell signed on with Albany last season, serving as the squads backup for most of the year.

Prior to his NAL stints, Pindell was a member of the Fan Controlled Football league for it’s inaugural season. As a franchised tagged player for the Glacier Boyz, the 24 year old showed off his dual-threat capabilities. In five games with the FCF, Pindell threw for five touchdowns, while rushing for another three. While the Glacier Boyz finished 1-3 in the regular season, the club was able to defeat the 3-1 Beasts in the playoffs.
After leading his squad to the big game in the FCF, the NAL’s Albany Empire signed Pindell to a contract for it’s 2021 season. The arena style that the FCF played fits perfectly into what the NAL is at its core. Pindell also got to learn the ropes from arena league veteran Quarterback Tommy Grady. He now looks primed for a starting job with the Empire in 2022. He’ll have some big shoes to fill, as Grady finished second in Passing across the entire NAL last season.
(Writer’s Note) David Pindell hopped on a podcast I used to contribute for back in early 2021. He really hoped to play in an 11-on-11 league this year after the FCF season wrapped up. His re-signing with the NAL shows the willingness to learn more about the arena league’s style of play, while also getting valuable game film along the way.
